Jelena Ostapenko is a popular Latvian professional tennis player.  She has a career WTA ranking of world No. 5 in singles, achieved on 19 March 2018, and world No. 9 in doubles, reached on 22 August 2022. Jelena won the 2017 French Open singles title. She competed in singles and also competed for Latvia in the Fed Cup. On the ITF Women’s Circuit, she has won seven singles matches and eight doubles match. She also took first place in the junior singles event of the 2014 Wimbledon Championships.

Ostapenko participated in her first WTA qualifying round in Moscow in 2012, but she was unable to move on. She largely played on the ITF Circuit in the next years, but in 2015, she was able to break into the Top 100.
